Scottish Highland Cattle

Breadcrumb Navigation

Scottish Highlands are one of the oldest breeds of cattle in the world! The reasons we chose to get started raising highland cattle are their hardiness, foraging abilities, friendliness, and their ability to calve unassisted. Also, highland beef is known for its lower fat and cholesterol content when compared to other cattle breeds. Because they have so much hair, they do not need to put on layers of fat to stay warm for the winter which is why their meat is so lean.

Meet Our Cows/Heifers

Flower is a Scottish Highland heifer. She has been exposed to our Scottish Highland bull Griffin and we are hoping for a calf from her in 2024.

Willow (pictured above with her 2023 calf Ruby) is a Scottish Highland cow. She had her first calf in the Spring of 2023, and has been an excellent mother! She is such a friendly cow and we look forward to many more calves from her in the future!

Ember is a Scottish Highland cow. She had her first calf in the Spring of 2023. She is a bit more reserved in temperament, but so far has been a pretty good mother. We look forward to see what she will do in the future as a cow on our farm!

Ruby (affectionately known as “Rubylicious”) is a Scottish Highland heifer calf born March 30, 2023. Her Dam is Willow and her Sire is HPF Lancelot. We will be keeping Ruby on our farm to further our breeding program once she is old enough to breed. Check back for updates on Ruby and how she is doing on our farm!

Meet our Bull

Wild River P. Griffin aka “Griffin” from Dam Gray Owl’s Siggy and Sire Skye High Cornerstone is our bull here on the farm. We purchased him in May of 2023 and are super excited for the genetics he will introduce to our herd. So far we are just getting to know him a bit better before we introduce him to our cows in July. He is the sweetest guy, and is super laid back. Exciting things to come from this guy on the farm!

Meet our (former) Bull

HPF Lancelot aka “Lance” was our AHCA registered bull. We purchased Lance in the summer of 2022 and he was such a wonderful addition to our farm! He had such a friendly disposition, and sired two calves for us both born the Spring of 2023 (Rex & Ruby). Unfortunately, we lost Lance in May of 2023 and we are very devastated by the loss.
